Hi, my name is Luke.
I’ve lived in Kalgoorlie for 23 years. I am passionate about being an Agent of Change and like to challenge the “that’s the way it’s always been” mind set.
I get asked a lot, “what do you do for a living?” I honestly can’t answer that in under one minute, people often expect a one sentence reply.
Here’s my predicament;
I am a qualified dual trade electrician/instrumentation technician. I finished my apprenticeship in January 2012 when i was 21 years old and worked a mix of casual and full time until July 2017, primarily at the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter.
My wife, Blair, and I went to the UK for two friend’s weddings and decided to make a 9 week holiday out of it.
When we got back from the UK trip I went back contracting for 9 months off and on while juggling my time working on E13 projects and being team leader of Asaph Studio.
In May 2018 I decided to call it quits on working as a tradesman, dusted off my ABN number and went full time into working on projects with E13, with a few other freelance gig economy jobs along the way.
I originally started working with Ruben, Director of E13 in October 2016 as a volunteer sound technician for the pop up music gigs called E13 Sessions. After a couple of months i set up an ABN and started as a sole trader. Since then i have helped out with 50+ projects, ranging from Heart Walk 2018 Shutdown Party, building upcycled bench seats for a local school, CKB street activation to trialling a co-working/collective space on Hannan St, 152.
Some of my skills are;
Live sound production
Recording studio work
So, going back to the previous predicament of “what do you do for a living?”
I would prefer the question “Is there anything you wouldn’t have a go at?”
I know no one has asked me to do this, but I believe in being the change you want to see.
